more seats added to engineering and medical seat matrix

A note on the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) website said, “There is a possibility of more colleges being added to the seat matrix. The number of available seats may increase in some institutions. All MBBS and BDS seat aspirants are requested to look for the latest information on the KEA website before exercising their seat options.”

No additions were made to the matrix on Monday. The number of seats available in the general pool in medical, engineering and BSc. farm science courses so far is far fewer than last year as the seats have been split with the newly introduced Hyderabad-Karnataka quota. Meanwhile, engineering seats in newly formed private universities are yet to be added to the matrix.

D. Jawahar, CEO of PES Institutions, said PES University had given its matrix to the government on June 12, even before the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) gave the approved list of colleges. “The Act governing our university was passed by the previous BJP government and the notification was issued by the present Congress government. It is different from the Act that applies to the first two private universities — Azim Premji and Alliance University. We are supposed to give 40 per cent of our seats to the government. We increased our intake by 60 seats to 1,080 this year and wrote to the government saying 432 seats are available for CET rank holders this year,” he said.

Mr. Jawahar added, “the government asked us for AICTE approval for these seats, which is not required. The University Grants Commission will inspect the university in due course.
