600+ Fellows have chosen to #StandUpForIndia to eliminate educational inequity

Teach For India welcomes Cohort of 2022!

#NowIt’sYourTurn

India, June 9, 2022: 600+ Fellows will be experiencing an eight-week training programme consisting of a two-week in-person session conducted at FLAME University, Pune. During this time, Fellows will be inducted and trained on a spectrum of topics, including best teaching practices, understanding educational inequity in India, envisioning one’s role in the social sector, bringing innovation into classrooms, and blended learning.

This training adheres to a Leadership in Teaching framework, which guides Fellows in their leadership journey in two main ways. They are encouraged to introspect and reflect on one’s purpose and role in solving the complex puzzle of educational inequity while also inculcating 21st century skills in Students to help them become leaders for tomorrow.

Alpana Mallick, Senior Director of Operations, believes that “an on-ground, immersive experience is imperative for our children and Fellows’ leadership. Hence we’re excited to revive the in-person Institute. The eight-weeks have a steep learning curve that fosters collaboration between Fellows and ensures that they are prepared for their first three months in the classroom. We’re constantly learning and iterating our Institute design to ensure it can meet the needs of our children and Fellows for post-pandemic learning.”

Teach For India ensures that India’s best are recruited to take the challenge of transforming the educational ecosystem. Over the past 13 years, 6-8 % of applicants have been shortlisted for Teach For India’s Fellowship. The Fellows who have joined the movement hail from some of the country’s top organisations. These include fresh and passionate graduates from top-tier universities like the University of Delhi, Jadavpur University, Christ University, and Osmania University to professionals from the corporate world of Cognizant and Amazon, to development sector workers from organizations like Teach a Child to technologists from WIPRO Technologies, Tech Mahindra — all united by a dream of an India free of poverty and filled with love.

“We dream of an India where our Preamble is not mindlessly recited by children who do not know its meaning. We dream of an India where liberty, equality, fraternity and justice mean something. 2022 Fellows, you have come to that place. You have come here to make deeper meaning of those words for yourself. To live those words,” said Shaheen Mistri, Founder and CEO, Teach For India, addressing the Cohort of 2022 at the opening ceremony.

Join us and listen to our Alumni and Fellows talk about their leadership journey over the course of their Fellowship, and our Student alumni share their stories of perseverance and strength.
