The order brings major relief to the Karnataka State Paramedical Institutions Managements Association, which represents approximately 640 paramedical colleges across Karnataka. These include both private and government institutions offering diploma programs in allied healthcare fields.

Courses Covered Under the Order

Institutions can now admit SSLC-qualified students to various paramedical diploma courses such as:

• Medical Laboratory Technology
• Optometry Technology
• Imaging and Radiology Technology

These courses were earlier accessible to Class 10 graduates but had faced restrictions under new eligibility norms.

Background: Eligibility Rule Dispute

The issue arose after the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions introduced regulations requiring PUC (Class 12) with science as the minimum qualification for paramedical admissions. This change threatened admissions and viability for many institutions, as a large number of students traditionally joined after SSLC.

In response, the association submitted representations to both the state government and the NCAHP seeking relaxation of norms for the 2026–27 academic year.

Court’s Observation and Direction

Justice E S Indiresh, while issuing the interim order, allowed member institutions to proceed with admissions based on SSLC qualification. However, the court clarified that:
