After being dormant for a while, the grievance cell at the Bangalore University (BU) evaluation/examination centre is now active. The staff of the evaluation and examination department are available at the grievances cell between 10 am and 5 pm.
The cell will be a single window to resolve issues related to evaluation, revaluation, corrections in marks cards, convocation certificates, etc. Dr K N Ninge Gowda, Registrar (Evaluation) of Bangalore University, said, “Complaints will be resolved within a few hours and the cell is dedicated to students’ problems regarding evaluation.”
With over 500 colleges affiliated to the varsity, complaints abound, especially during exam time.
“There will be cases where results were not announced due to technical problems, mistakes in evaluation and entering marks. The number of answer scripts is high and so the problems too,” said another BU official.
In Full Swing
BU is renovating a building at Central College (stone building) campus to house the grievance cell. “Once the building is ready, we will work from 10 am to 5 pm. Currently, the cell is active between 3 pm and 5 pm,” Gowda said.
As per information available from the evaluation section, the registrar (evaluation), deputy registrar, assistant registrar, section officers and a person providing technical support will be available at the grievance cell.
“If a student gives his/her request regarding a problem around 10 am, we will provide him/her with an acknowledgment and ask the student to return post-lunch. The answer will be ready by then,” Gowda explained.
Move Thrills Students
Prathiba, a BCom student from Vivekananda College, is happy that the cell will resume functioning. “This will avoid having to approach many people in different departments for a single problem,” she said.
“We had submitted representations to earlier vice-chancellors requesting them to set up an active grievance cell. Though the cell was established many years ago, it was not active. We are now happy that the cell will have ears for our issues,” said Karthik, a postgraduate student at BU.
Authorities in the evaluation department said they receive complaints about even 10-year-old marks cards and convocation certificates.
“In such cases, the candidate have to run from section to section across the university. The authorities too will find it difficult to manage the complaints. Henceforth, even such cases will be solved under the umbrella of the grievance cell,” Gowda added.
