APAAR IDs Rollout in Karnataka: A Step Towards Streamlined Education

Bengaluru, Karnataka – The Karnataka government has started rolling out Automatic Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) IDs for students. This is part of the “One Nation, One Student ID” initiative. The 12-digit APAAR ID aims to streamline academic and administrative processes. It provides a lifelong identifier for students across various schools.

The APAAR ID integrates with DigiLocker, allowing secure storage of academic records, exam results, and achievements. It will also be used for entrance exams by the National Testing Agency (NTA), admissions, scholarships, and government benefits.

However, some educationists criticize the APAAR ID. They argue it contradicts Karnataka’s State Education Policy (SEP) and raises privacy concerns. Some believe the existing Student Achievement Tracking System (SATS), now upgraded to version 2.0, is sufficient.

The government has directed schools to get parental consent for the APAAR registration. Yet, logistical challenges and technical issues have slowed the process.

Despite these challenges, the Karnataka government aims to ensure all students benefit from the streamlined educational framework provided by APAAR IDs.
