AISECT partners with Government of Meghalaya’s Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen for free-of-cost skills training of 300 candidates

AISECT, which is India’s leading Social Enterprise working in the area of skill development, has partnered with the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training (DECT) under Government of Meghalaya’s Department of Labour. As part of the partnership, AISECT will provide free-of-cost skills training to 300 candidates from the State under the Centrally Sponsored State Managed (CSSM) component of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 2.0. The training will be conducted across five sectors including IT/ITES, Capital Goods, Construction, Green Jobs and Telecom.

Under the programme, 60 candidates will be trained as Domestic Data Entry Operators, 60 as Manual Metal Arc Welding/Shielded Metal Arc Welding Welders, 60 as Assistant Electricians, 60 as Solar PV Installers (Suryamitra) and 60 as Handset Repair Professionals.

Set to commence in the first week of August, the training will be of 340-540 hours spread over a period of three months. This will be a residential training programme, wherein all the 300 candidates will be trained at the AISECT Centre in Bhopal district of Madhya Pradesh. All the enrolled candidates will be provided free-of-cost training, lodging and boarding for the duration of the programme. They will also be provided with training kit consisting of bag, pen, pad and identity card. After the completion of the training, the candidates will be assessed and certified by the Sector Skill Councils through third party assessment agencies.

To be eligible for the programme, the candidates should be beneficiaries of DECT, Government of Meghalaya and should have a minimum educational qualification of 8th/10th or 12th pass (based on job roles). After the completion of the training programme, AISECT will also organize recruitment drives through Rojgar Melas at select locations and its online placement portal Rojgar Mantra to assist candidates with placements by connecting them to potential employers.

Talking about the initiative, AISECT’s Executive Vice President Mr Siddharth Chaturvedi said, “It is well established that India is in dire need of skilled professionals across various domains. In partnership with DECT, we intend to provide skills training to students in Meghalaya across five sectors that are most relevant for the State and prepare them for the jobs market. This programme will be especially beneficial to school dropouts and unemployed youth in the State. Being a leader in the skill development domain, we are committed to empowering the people in the rural and backward regions of India by providing them access to quality skills training and better employment opportunities.”

Launched in 1985, AISECT works in semi-urban and rural parts of the country to empower people through Skill Development, Higher Education, Financial Inclusion, e-Governance and other ICT-based services avenue. It is spearheading numerous skill development initiatives of the Central and State Governments like Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra, Deen Dayal Upadhyay-Grameen Kaushalya Yojana, National Skills Qualification Framework, National Urban Livelihood Mission, State Skill Development Missions, etc. Till date, the organization has successfully trained over 20 lakh people in the small town, district, block and panchayat level areas across India.
