The Government of Assam has signed a Memorandum of Understanding worth INR 300 crores with the AISECT Group of Universities for setting up Dr. C.V. Raman University in the State. The MoU was signed by Smti Krishna Gohain, IAS Secretary, Higher Education Department, Assam and AISECT’s Director Mr. Amitab Saxena on Saturday at the ADVANTAGE ASSAM Global Investors’ Summit 2018.
AISECT Group of Universities is one of India’s biggest groups of universities in terms of number of locations. The Group’s portfolio currently includes Dr C.V. Raman University (CVRU) in Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh), Rabindra Nath Tagore University in Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) and AISECT University in Hazaribagh (Jharkhand). Moreover, CVRU Patna (Bihar) will become operational from July 2018 session. Apart from CVRU Assam, the Group is planning to launch Universities at 4 more locations across the country within the next couple of years.
The first campus of CVRU was launched in 2006 in the tribal area of Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh as the first private University of
Central India. In fact, it is the only private university in a tribal area of the country and has emerged as a major research and skills-based higher education hub in the region. The University offers a range of Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research programmes in areas like Commerce, Education, Journalism, Law, Management and Science. Moreover, owing to AISECT Group’s extensive contacts in the Industry, the University is known for offering excellent placement opportunities to its students.
Speaking about the launch of CVRU in Assam, Mr. Santosh Kumar Choubey, who is the Founder of AISECT Group of Universities & the Chancellor of CVRU, said, “Through all our Universities, we have endeavored to open up the higher education space in Rural India, especially those areas where there is limited availability of quality higher education institutions. We are yet to finalize the location of our University in Assam, but we will definitely continue the legacy and ideology of the Group and set up the University Campus at a remote location.”
He added, “We have been wanting to set up a higher education institution in the North Eastern part of the country for a very long time. Assam, being the biggest student hub in the region, was a preferred option. Moreover, through its ADVANTAGE ASSAM campaign, the State Government has been quite receptive to our proposal of investing in the State so as to contribute towards improving its Gross Education Ratio.”
The Group aims to start operations of CVRU Assam by the end of this year.
