UK-based Staffordshire University invites applications for its BSc (Hons Computer Games Design programme
USPs of the course: UK-based Staffordshire University is inviting applicants for its reputed Computer Games Design BSc (Hons) programme. Accredited by TIGA (The Independent Game Developer’s Association), the games industry body, the programme enables learners to attain utmost competency to pursue a career in the games industry as 3D Artists in environment and character art or games technical designers for levels, quests and missions or narrative designer for games and even motion capture specialists. The aim is to produce a reflective and critical graduate with a global perspective.
The programme allows graduates to work in an environment ranging from creating 3D characters or environments to creating industry standard game/level designs from paper concept to a completed level in UE4. It also develops learners’ ability to understand the production and asset pipeline in the development of games. Being an active member of TIGA and UKIE (UK Interactive Entertainment), this programme keeps pace with the running trends of the industry and uses industry standard software and methods for games development.
The course team works closely with Epic Games, who provide valuable advice on course content. In this context Epic Games and Staffordshire University have a dynamic partnership to help bring game developers, the University and students closer together. The epicentre of this project is the Epic Games Centre, which is a fully equipped space designed to nurture future industry developers. Here students not only benefit from the expertise and resources of Epic Games but also gain from the guidance of Visiting Professor Mike Gamble, European Territory Manager at Epic Games.
The programme supports research enriched teaching, with academics from a variety of backgrounds in the games industry, engaged in active research in fields such as military games simulation, gamification, reward in games and games engine research. Several times a year, games companies come to the University for development days and training, thus providing learners with the opportunity to meet with these company representatives and build contacts for their future career.
Course Duration: Three years (Full-Time)
Career Prospects for Course Graduates: Course graduates will have excellent employment opportunities within the games industry and compete for jobs in the areas of 3D Art as environment artists, character artists, games technical design, level, quest and mission design, games production and publishing and narrative design for games, motion capture specialists.
Eligibility Criteria: Candidates should have attained a minimum of 70% overall score in Class 12. English language requirements include an overall IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in speaking, writing, reading and listening.
Commencing From: September 2017
Course Fee: £10,900 per year of study
Scholarships: New Merit Scholarship of £1,000 is available to Indian students enrolling for the first time in September 2017 and also, New Undergraduate Progression Scholarships of up to £2,000 will be awarded on an annual basis dependent on performance across the full academic year.
Application Deadline: Early applications by June 30th, 2017 are recommended.
