Bangalore, India – Bangalore University has recently faced significant criticism for rescheduling the B Com exam from 9:30 am to 2 pm, which now overlaps with the Chartered Accountant (CA) exam scheduled for the same time. This sudden change has put many students in a difficult position, especially those who are pursuing both B Com and CA qualifications.
A first-year B Com student, who is also preparing for the CA exam, approached BJP MLA S Suresh Kumar in distress over the sudden schedule change. Kumar has demanded that the university offer an alternative date for the B Com exam to accommodate students who need to take both exams.
The Karnataka High Court has intervened and allowed the university to proceed with the exams as per the original schedule, but the issue has sparked a debate about the university’s consideration for students’ needs.
The university’s decision to reschedule the exam was communicated to students just 24 hours before the exam, leaving them with little time to adjust their plans. Many students have expressed frustration and concern over the lack of consideration for their schedules and the potential impact on their academic progress.
Kumar has criticized the university’s decision, stating that it reflects poorly on their credibility and has called for a more student-centric approach in future scheduling decisions. He emphasized the need for the university to offer an alternative date for the B Com exam to ensure that students can take both exams without any conflicts.
The Karnataka High Court’s intervention has provided some relief, but the debate continues about how universities can better accommodate the needs of their students, especially those pursuing multiple qualifications.
