As the admission season for engineering seats in Karnataka winds down, the intake picture for the 2025-26 academic year is now largely clear. Here’s the latest status as of mid-November 2025.
More than 73 government and private engineering colleges across Karnataka — including prestigious institutions like University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) and R.V. College of Engineering — have officially submitted their proposed BTech intake numbers to the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) and Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) for the 2025-26 academic year.
These proposed intakes will form the basis of seat allocation for the next admission cycle that begins with KCET and COMEDK UGET 2026.
The extended vacancy round for remaining seats after regular KCET and COMEDK counseling concluded on September 14, 2025. Colleges have now reported their final filled seats and unfilled management/NRI quota seats, enabling them to finalize sanctioned intake for the upcoming year while complying with AICTE guidelines.
For the 2025-26 academic year, the minimum eligibility for BTech admission through KCET and COMEDK continues to be:
Students who appeared for improvement/supplementary exams in 2025 and meet these cut-offs will also be eligible when the next cycle opens.
Management quota seats in private colleges (typically 25–35% of sanctioned intake depending on the institution) continue to follow AICTE norms. Admissions under management quota are conducted directly by colleges after the COMEDK and KEA counseling process is complete. Fees and admission criteria are governed by the respective college policies and the Government of Karnataka’s fee regulatory framework.
With intakes now locked in by most colleges, the total number of BTech seats available through KCET and COMEDK for 2026 will be very similar to 2025, barring minor adjustments by AICTE or the state government. Popular branches such as Computer Science, Information Science, AI & Machine Learning, and Electronics are expected to see marginal increases in a few top-tier colleges, while traditional branches may remain stable.
Students preparing for KCET 2026 and COMEDK UGET 2026 can now get a fairly accurate picture of seat availability by referring to the 2025 seat matrix published on the official KEA and COMEDK websites — the 2026 matrix is unlikely to see drastic changes.
The 2025-26 intake submission marks the formal closure of one admission cycle and the quiet beginning of the next. For current Class 12 students and repeaters targeting Karnataka engineering colleges, the target remains clear: aim for strong ranks in KCET/COMEDK 2026, because the seat pool is now effectively finalized.
Stay updated through official KEA (cetonline.karnataka.gov.in) and COMEDK (comedk.org) portals for the exact seat matrix release expected in early 2026.
