BU Faces Backlash Over Exam on Public Holiday Honoring Manmohan Singh

Bangalore University (BU) recently faced backlash for scheduling an MBA exam on December 27, 2024, despite the Karnataka state government declaring a public holiday to honor the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The decision to hold the exam on a day of mourning was met with criticism from students and the public, who felt it was insensitive to the memory of Singh, who passed away on December 26, 20241.

In response to the outcry, BU decided to postpone the exam and announced that a new date would be communicated to students soon. The Registrar (Evaluation), Srinivas C, issued a notification stating that the exam was postponed out of respect for the public holiday1.

This incident has sparked a debate about the university’s decision-making process and its sensitivity to significant national events.
