In keeping with its tradition of promoting music and the arts, Canadian International School presented a choir and orchestra concert at the RMZ Galleria Mall in Yelahanka recently as part of Christmas celebrations.
The concert saw the participation of around 100 CIS students from all ages along with the CIS student jazz combo named Sweet Basil Jazz Combo and the adult CIS staff member jazz combo named Meter Down. The Christmas-themed concert was a hit amongst mall-goers that evening and students played to a packed mall filled with spectators and music enthusiasts. Student choirs and orchestras belted out popular Christmas music and CIS’ adult and student jazz bands also performed contemporary music for the crowd.
The students performed under the guidance of the school’s music faculty – Mr. Scott Zeuch, IGCSE Band/Music Instructor, Mr. Cullen Sutherland, IBDP MS/HS Music Teacher, Ms. Barbara Thomas, ES Music Teacher. The Canadian International School is also the only school in Bangalore to offer Concert Band as a taught subject. The concert band is a performing ensemble consisting of members of the woodwind, brass, and percussion families.
“Performances like these provide opportunities for CIS to showcase the strong musicianship of our students with the greater Bangalore community. It gives students a real-life performance experience outside of the classroom, performing not only for their peers and families but also those just passing by. The students seemed more confident in this performance, and it is really exciting to see them step up to the challenge and enjoy performing for an audience.” said Cullen Sutherland, MS/HS Music Teacher.
“The Elementary Choir was very excited to be invited to join the RMZ Galleria performance for the first time! It’s wonderful to give young students an opportunity to share their talents with the greater community and become more accomplished musicians.” said Barbara Thomas, ES Music Teacher.
“I was thrilled to have all three music levels of the CIS Music department represented at the mall. We were able to see the collaborative efforts of the elementary, middle school, and high school music teachers. There were more than 120 students represented in this event, and the holiday shoppers received our students with great applause. Well done CIS MUSICIANS!” said Scott Zeuch, HS Music Teacher.
