The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched a nationwide series of Skill Education training workshops for teachers handling Classes VI to VIII, beginning 4 February 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen vocational and practical learning in middle schools and marks a major step toward the implementation of competency-based education across CBSE-affiliated institutions.

Nationwide Capacity-Building Programme

The workshops are being conducted as part of a structured capacity-building programme under CBSE’s Skill Education Division. Sessions are scheduled in several cities across the country throughout February 2026. Principals, vice-principals and middle school teachers from affiliated schools are participating in the programme.

CBSE officials stated that the objective is to equip educators with modern teaching strategies that emphasize hands-on learning and real-world applications rather than rote memorisation.

Emphasis on Practical and Activity-Based Learning

A key focus of the training is the integration of activity-based learning methods into classroom instruction. Teachers are being trained to use structured learning resources and practical modules that encourage students to think critically, solve problems and apply knowledge in everyday situations.

The programme also highlights interdisciplinary learning, enabling students to connect academic concepts with vocational and life skills.

Supporting Competency-Based Education

The initiative aligns with CBSE’s broader reforms aimed at shifting the school education system toward competency-based learning, where assessment focuses on understanding and skill development rather than only theoretical knowledge.

By preparing teachers to implement skill education effectively at the middle school level, CBSE seeks to build a strong foundation for students before they enter secondary and senior secondary classes.

Training Structure and Participation

Each workshop is conducted as a full-day interactive session, combining demonstrations, group discussions and practical exercises. Participation in the programme is free for CBSE-affiliated schools, though teachers are required to manage their own travel and accommodation arrangements.

Selected participants will later serve as resource persons to guide and support other teachers in their respective regions.

Education experts believe the training programme will help make classrooms more engaging and relevant to students’ future needs. With greater emphasis on vocational exposure and practical skills, students are expected to develop stronger problem-solving abilities, creativity and confidence.
