CBSE Unveils Stringent Exam Ethics Guidelines for 2025 Board Exams

New Delhi, January 24, 2025 – As the countdown to the 2025 board examinations begins, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced robust guidelines to ensure ethical conduct during exams. These measures, announced ahead of the Class 10 and 12 examinations commencing on February 15, 2025, are aimed at eliminating malpractices and fostering a culture of fairness among students.

Key Highlights of the Guidelines

  1. Raising Awareness Among Students and Parents: CBSE has directed schools to organize informative sessions for students and their parents. These sessions will highlight the significance of adhering to exam ethics and detail the repercussions of violating the “Unfair Means Rules.” The goal is to cultivate a sense of responsibility and honesty among students.
  2. Ban on Unauthorized Items: Students are explicitly prohibited from bringing items like mobile phones, electronic gadgets, and any written material to the exam center. Only essential stationery, an analog watch, and a transparent water bottle are allowed. It is the responsibility of schools to ensure that students are fully aware of these restrictions.
  3. New Penalties for Violations: The guidelines introduce stringent penalties under the Unfair Means Act. Students caught using electronic devices or spreading rumors to disrupt the examination process will face severe consequences. Their exams for the current year and the next across all subjects will be canceled, significantly affecting their academic journey.
  4. Responsibilities of School Officials: School principals and heads are entrusted with the task of briefing exam officials about their duties to maintain the integrity of the exams. Additionally, they must remind students about the importance of exam ethics on the day of the exam.
  5. Enhanced Surveillance with CCTV: To deter any unfair practices, all examination rooms will be equipped with CCTV cameras. Assistant Superintendents will monitor these cameras in real-time, ensuring a transparent and fair examination process.

Community Engagement

The CBSE is also engaging with community stakeholders to support the implementation of these guidelines. Workshops and seminars will be conducted to educate teachers, parents, and students about the new measures. The board believes that a collective effort is crucial to instill values of honesty and integrity in students.

Official Statement

A CBSE spokesperson stated, “Upholding the integrity of the examination process is of utmost importance. These new guidelines are designed to ensure a level playing field for all students. We urge schools, parents, and students to adhere strictly to these guidelines.”

Future Outlook

With these stringent measures in place, the CBSE aims to maintain the sanctity of the examination process. Schools are encouraged to take proactive steps to prepare students for the exams and ensure they are well-informed about the ethical standards expected of them.
