CET to be conducted for MBA & MCA seats in Karnataka

Single Common Entrance Test (CET) will be conducted by the Karnataka State government and Management colleges association for admission to MBA and MCA courses in Karnataka colleges. Earlier, State had two entrance tests, CMAT and KMAT.

In 2013, state government agreed to accept the CMAT scores for admission to MBA and MCA courses in the government colleges.

Now, Karnataka state government has not agreed to accept CMAT scores for their state quota seats.

Management colleges conducted KMAT test to fill the management quota seats. Now, they plan to conduct Common Entrance Test (CET) to fill the MBA and MCA seats. Government seats would be filled through the centralised counseling conducted by the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU).

The management seats would be filled by management colleges through PGCET scores. Vacant government seats will fall under management quota and these seats will be filled through KMAT. The PGCET entrance examination will be conducted on June 2 and 8, 2014.

KMAT entrance examination would be conducted on September 1, 2014. Earlier, AICTE had made the CMAT entrance examination mandatory for the MBA and MCA seats. But not many applied for the exam and around 60% of seats went vacant. There are around 200 colleges offering these courses, out of which 22 are managed by the government.

Around 25,000 seats are available whereas half of them fall under government quota. There are around 12,000 MCA seats in the country and around 18,000 students appear for PGCET every year
