Education Department Cracks Down on Fake Internal Assessment Marks

In response to allegations of schools inflating internal assessment (IA) marks, the education department has announced the formation of three-member scrutiny panels at the taluk level. These panels, consisting of subject experts, will review IA marks awarded to students in government, aided, and unaided private high schools.

The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) has directed District Deputy Directors of Public Instruction (DDPIs) and Block Education Officers (BEOs) to inspect schools and verify compliance with IA mark regulations. Reports of discrepancies between actual student performance and the marks awarded have prompted this action.

The scrutiny panels will ensure that IA marks, which account for 20% of the total subject marks, are awarded fairly and accurately. Any discrepancies found will require rectification, and non-compliance may lead to further action by the District DDPI.

In addition to these measures, the education department plans to conduct awareness workshops for teachers and administrators to emphasize the importance of fair assessment practices. These workshops aim to promote transparency and integrity in the evaluation process, ultimately benefiting students and upholding the credibility of the education system.

This move aims to maintain the integrity of the assessment process and ensure that students’ performance is accurately reflected in their marks.
