Hundreds of government job aspirants, including candidates preparing for the Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) and other competitive examinations, staged a major protest in Dharwad on February 24 and 25, 2026. The agitation witnessed participation from college students, unemployed youth, and candidates enrolled in coaching centres across North Karnataka.
The protest was led mainly by the Akhila Karnataka State Students’ Association (AKSSA), which mobilised aspirants from multiple districts. Demonstrators gathered near key administrative offices and raised slogans demanding immediate action to fill long-pending government vacancies.
Protesters demanded:
They alleged that repeated postponement of recruitment exams and delays in announcing results had pushed many aspirants into financial and mental distress.
Several KAS aspirants said they had spent years preparing for examinations without clarity on when recruitment would take place. Many pointed out that thousands of sanctioned posts in departments such as revenue, education, health, and police remained vacant, affecting both employment opportunities and public service delivery.
Leaders of AKSSA accused the state administration of ignoring youth employment concerns and urged the government to treat recruitment as a priority policy issue. They warned that protests would intensify if a clear recruitment roadmap was not announced soon.
Local officials met a delegation of protest leaders and assured them that their memorandum would be forwarded to the state government. Authorities stated that efforts were being made to streamline recruitment processes and reduce delays caused by procedural and legal hurdles.
The Dharwad protest has drawn attention across Karnataka, with similar demonstrations being planned in other districts. Student organisations said the movement reflects growing dissatisfaction among educated youth over shrinking job opportunities and slow recruitment cycles in the government sector
