The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, has announced three new BTech programmes for the 2026–27 academic year. The new courses are Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Mechanics and Computing. Admissions will be based on JEE Advanced 2026 scores through JoSAA counselling.
New Courses Introduced
The new programmes expand IISc’s undergraduate engineering offerings. They will join the existing BTech in Mathematics and Computing.
The courses are designed to combine engineering fundamentals with research and practical learning.
Admissions Through JoSAA
Students must qualify JEE Advanced 2026 to apply. Seat allotment will take place through the JoSAA counselling process.
IISc said the process will be similar to admissions followed by the IITs.
Focus on Emerging Technologies
The Aerospace Engineering course will cover aerodynamics, propulsion, and flight systems.
Materials Science and Engineering will focus on semiconductors, nanotechnology, energy materials, and manufacturing.
Mechanics and Computing will combine mechanical sciences with computational modelling and simulations.
Research-Oriented Learning
IISc plans to include laboratory work, research projects, and interdisciplinary learning in the curriculum.
The institute aims to strengthen research-focused undergraduate engineering education in India.
High Interest Expected
Education experts expect strong competition for the new programmes because of IISc’s academic reputation and limited seats.
The institute’s Bengaluru campus is also expected to provide students with strong industry and startup exposure.
