The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has announced a new Master of Technology (M.Tech) program in Sustainable Technologies, set to begin in the academic year 2024. This program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to address pressing environmental challenges and contribute to a sustainable future1.
The M.Tech in Sustainable Technologies program will be multi-disciplinary in nature, open to science and engineering graduates from a broad range of academic disciplines. The program will focus on areas such as water and natural resource conservation, energy management, climate change, carbon neutrality, health and wellbeing, policy and governance, and environmental stewardship1.
Established in 1974 during the Appropriate Technology movement, the Centre for Sustainable Technologies at IISc (formerly known as ASTRA) has a long history of providing local solutions to global sustainability problems. The new M.Tech program will be a 2-year (4-semester) program with specialization options in Water, Energy, or Buildings1.
Eligibility for the program includes a minimum of Second Class or equivalent in B.Tech (Mechanical/Civil/Environmental/Chemical/Materials/Biotechnology) or a bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a master’s degree (Chemistry/Biology/Management) with a valid score in any of the relevant GATE papers.
