After meeting vice chancellors and other officials, Higher Education Minister G.T. Devegowda said that the department will convene a meeting to sort out these problems within a fortnight.
Bangalore University, Bengaluru Central University (BCU) and Bengaluru North University (BNU) are experiencing teething problems after the trifurcation of BU. For one, the State government is yet to notify the assets and liabilities of each university.
They are also grappling with a shortage of faculty and infrastructure, as they are yet to be given adequate financial aid.
The universities were officially trifurcated before the commencement of the 2017-2018 academic year. However, BCU and BU have been at loggerheads over ownership of buildings in the Central College campus. Both also claim ownership of the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE).
‘Do not close department’
The minister directed BCU not to close the Department of Communications. “I have directed the university to to call for applications and recruit guest faculty within three days to run the course,” he said. BCU had decided to shut down the department for this academic year citing lack of faculty and infrastructure.
