The Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) in Bengaluru has launched a BS (Research)–PhD integrated programme to strengthen research-oriented higher education in India. The programme aims to identify talented students early and guide them through a structured pathway from undergraduate studies to doctoral research.

New Academic Pathway for Young Researchers

The integrated programme allows students to pursue a Bachelor of Science (Research) degree and continue directly into a PhD programme without a separate admission process after graduation.

This model reduces the gap between undergraduate education and advanced research training while helping students build strong foundations in scientific inquiry from the beginning of their academic journey.

Multiple Admission Routes

JNCASR will admit students to the programme through several recognised national-level entrance examinations. Applicants can use scores from:

• Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM)
• Common University Entrance Test (CUET)
• JNCASR’s own entrance examination

Candidates shortlisted through these routes will undergo further academic evaluation and interviews before final selection.

Interdisciplinary Approach to Science

A major feature of the programme is its interdisciplinary training in science. Students will study across multiple scientific fields such as physics, chemistry, biology, and materials science.

The programme encourages collaborative research and exposure to emerging areas of science, allowing students to work at the intersection of different disciplines.

Fellowships and Research Exposure

Students enrolled in the BS–PhD programme will receive financial fellowships, mentorship from experienced scientists, and access to advanced research laboratories.

They will also gain opportunities to participate in research projects, scientific workshops, and conferences, which will help them develop strong research skills at an early stage.
