JEE Main 2025 Results: Bengaluru’s Kushagra Gupta Shines with Perfect 100 Percentile in Session-2

Bengaluru, April 19, 2025 – The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the results for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025 Session-2, Paper-1 (B.E./B.Tech.) on April 18, 2025, bringing cheer to aspirants across India. Among the standout performers is Kushagra Gupta, an 18-year-old student from Bengaluru, who secured a perfect 100 percentile, earning him a spot among the nation’s top 24 scorers. Hailing from Narayana Co-Kaveri Bhavan College in Kasavanahalli, Kushagra’s remarkable achievement has made him the only candidate from Karnataka to achieve this feat in Session-2, solidifying his position as a state topper.

A Consistent Achiever

Kushagra’s success in Session-2 comes as no surprise, as he previously scored a 100 percentile in JEE Main 2025 Session-1, held in January 2025. His consistent performance across both sessions underscores his dedication and meticulous preparation. In Session-1, he achieved a raw score of 286, securing an All India Rank (AIR) of 24. Despite finding Session-2 more challenging, particularly in mathematics, Kushagra scored 251, earning a 99.93 percentile in the second attempt. His decision to appear for Session-2, even without full preparation, reflects his commitment to pushing his limits.

“My focus was mainly on improving myself and becoming consistent over time, instead of just going for a top rank. I thought that the next day, I had to do better than last time,” Kushagra shared in an interview with The Hindu. He credited his school’s rigorous daily examinations for honing his skills, stating, “In our school, they used to conduct exams daily. I got a lot of practice from that and improved a lot.”

The Journey to Excellence

A student of Narayana Educational Institutions, Kushagra’s journey to the top was marked by discipline and a focus on incremental progress. His preparation strategy emphasized consistent practice and self-improvement over chasing ranks. “Taking one step at a time has been an integral ingredient for me,” he told The Indian Express. Despite the intense competition for seats at prestigious institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Kushagra remains unfazed, focusing on his preparation for the upcoming JEE Advanced 2025, the gateway to IIT admissions.

Kushagra’s family has been a pillar of support throughout his journey. His father, Amit Gupta, serves as a department head at Alstom Transport India Limited, while his mother, Madhumita Gupta, is a senior scientist at Philips Healthcare. Their encouragement, combined with Kushagra’s determination, has propelled him to excel in one of India’s most competitive examinations.

JEE Main 2025 Session-2: A National Overview

The JEE Main 2025 Session-2, conducted from April 2 to 8, 2025, saw a total of 10,61,840 candidates register, with 9,92,350 appearing for the exam. The examination was held in 13 languages, including Kannada, across 531 centers in 300 cities, including 15 international locations. This year, 24 candidates nationwide secured a perfect 100 percentile in Session-2, with Rajasthan leading the tally with seven toppers, followed by Maharashtra, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh with three each. Among the toppers, two female candidates stood out: Devdutta Majhi from West Bengal and Sai Manogna Guthikonda from Andhra Pradesh.

The NTA implemented stringent security measures to ensure fairness, including AI-based remote video surveillance, live CCTV monitoring, biometric verification, and 5G signal jammers. Despite these efforts, 110 candidates were caught using unfair means, and their results were withheld. Additionally, the results of 23 candidates were put on hold due to identity verification discrepancies.

The cut-off percentiles for JEE Advanced 2025 eligibility were also released, with the general category requiring a minimum of 93.10 percentile, EWS at 80.38, OBC-NCL at 79.43, SC at 61.15, ST at 47.90, and PwBD at 0.0079. These cut-offs determine eligibility for the next stage of the admission process to IITs.

Kushagra’s Aspirations

With his sights set on a Computer Science Engineering (CSE) seat at either IIT Bombay or IIT Madras, Kushagra is now gearing up for JEE Advanced 2025. Acknowledging the fierce competition, he remains focused on rigorous practice. “There is a concern that I might be left behind in the race to the IITs. However, I am going to put all those concerns on the back burner now. My only focus is on improving myself and practicing much harder than the Mains,” he said.

Kushagra’s principal and teachers at Narayana Co-Kaveri Bhavan College celebrated his achievement, lauding his hard work and consistency. “Kushagra’s success is a testament to his dedication and the robust academic environment at our institution,” said the college principal, Ratan S. Bhagavati.

A Milestone for Karnataka

Kushagra’s perfect score has brought pride to Karnataka, a state known for its academic excellence. As the sole candidate from the state to secure a 100 percentile in Session-2, he has set a high benchmark for his peers. His achievement highlights the quality of education and coaching available in Bengaluru, often referred to as India’s Silicon Valley and a hub for competitive exam preparation.

The JEE Main 2025 results mark a significant milestone for Kushagra and the 24 other toppers who achieved a perfect score. As they prepare for the next phase of their academic journey, their stories of perseverance and excellence continue to inspire millions of aspirants across the country.
