The Karnataka government has reduced the minimum passing marks for First Pre-University (I PUC) students from 35 to 33 marks. The Karnataka Department of School Education introduced this change to bring consistency in evaluation standards across major state examinations.

Alignment with Other State Exams

The new rule aligns I PUC evaluation with the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examination and the Second Pre-University (II PUC) Examination, where 33 marks already serve as the minimum pass mark.

Education authorities said this step will create a uniform assessment system across different academic levels.

Nearly Six Lakh Students to Benefit

Around six lakh students studying in pre-university colleges across Karnataka will benefit from the revised rule. Students who score 33 or 34 marks, who earlier failed to meet the 35-mark requirement, can now pass the subject and continue their studies without delay.

Focus on Uniform Evaluation Standards

Officials say the change supports the government’s effort to standardize evaluation criteria across state and national boards. The move also reduces confusion among students and teachers about different pass marks at different stages of schooling.
