The Karnataka Examinations Authority has confirmed that the “Best of Two” rule will be implemented for KCET 2026 ranking. This decision is expected to benefit thousands of students by allowing them a fair opportunity to improve their academic performance.
How the “Best of Two” Rule Works
Under this system, students can appear for two board exam attempts (Exam 1 and Exam 2). The higher score from the two attempts will be considered for calculating KCET ranks. This applies to core subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, which are crucial for CET ranking. This ensures that a single poor performance does not negatively impact a student’s final ranking.
Applicable Only to State Board Students
The rule is specifically applicable to students from the Karnataka state board (PUC). It applies to Karnataka Pre-University students and does not apply to CBSE, ICSE, or other boards. This distinction has been made due to differences in evaluation systems across boards.
No Change in KCET Exam Pattern
The “Best of Two” rule does not alter the KCET exam pattern or schedule. The entrance test will continue as usual for admissions into engineering, pharmacy, agriculture, and other professional courses. However, CET ranks will be prepared after considering the best score from the two board exam attempts, ensuring fairness in the final merit list.
Clarity After Student Concerns
The announcement comes after confusion among students regarding whether improvement exam scores would be counted. With this clarification, students can confidently attempt Exam 2 for score improvement, as the system will automatically consider the better score and there is no disadvantage in reappearing for exams.
