Knowledge@Wharton High School invites applications for its third annual summer program for international students

More than 600 students from over 50 countries have already registered their interest for the KWHS Global Young Leaders Academy, which will host four programs in 2017. High school students aged between 15-18 years are encouraged to apply.

Past participants have described the program as an “exhilarating experience”; “enriching and a must-do”; and one that prepares them to “function independently”, providing “insight into college life at USA” and an opportunity for “meeting people from different countries.”

Knowledge@Wharton High School (KWHS), a member of the Knowledge@Wharton global network, part of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, is accepting applications to its upcoming summer program, KWHS Global Young Leaders Academy. KWHSpromotes global financial literacy, entrepreneurship and leadership among high school students and educators around the world. The program also provides a deeper understanding of business and personal finance and equips students with the skills to excel in a global marketplace. The program includes a session on U.S. college admissions to help students understand the experience of applying to American colleges and universities. The participants also get a chance to be part of a community-service project and receive a certificate that recognizes their volunteer hours. Additionally, students receive a certificate from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania upon successful completion of the program.

The KWHS Global Young Leaders Academy will conduct four two-week sessions from May to August in 2017, at the Philadelphia campus of The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. High school students aged 15-18 years are eligible to apply through BrainGain Magazine, a study-abroad portal that is collaborating with KWHS on this program. The two-week program costs $5,110 per student, including tuition, ground transportation and medical insurance coverage during the program, lodging and boarding. The program fee does not include international travel costs, international travel insurance and visa costs.

KWHS Global Young Leaders Academy is a unique opportunity for high school students to experience a high-level business and finance education. In the past, more than 125 students from 21 different countries, including Turkey, Azerbaijan, Greece, China, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Singapore, and India, have attended the program. Last year’s sessions were oversubscribed, with a 400% jump in the number of registered students compared to the previous year. For the 2017 sessions, the program has already received interest from more than 600 students from over 50 countries.

Diana Drake, Managing Editor, Knowledge@Wharton High School, says, “Leadership and entrepreneurial skills are important for the growth and development of students in today’s innovation-driven global economy. The KWHS Global Young Leaders Academy helps to build these skills in students of different nationalities, and prepares them to overcome the uncertainties of the future so they can be successful in life.” Students had an opportunity to meet and discuss the program details with Diana Drake, who recently traveled to India to participate in BrainGain Magazine’s student session at the One Globe Forum 2017 last month. BrainGain Magazine is a partner of the annual One Globe Forum, India’s leading platform exploring the intersection of technology, innovation, smart cities, skills, regional collaboration and education and how they contribute to the 21st century knowledge economy.

Several students who attended the KWHS Summer Program have shared their positive experiences:

My favorite thing about the program was the classes taught by the professors. I learnt to be independent, confident and also hone my oratory skills.”

Another alumnus of the program, Adit Mukherjee from Jamnabai Narsee International School, Mumbai, says, “Enriching and a must-do, it gives significant insights into life at University. I learnt how to stick to deadlines, how to live on my own, make my own choices, and function independently.”
