On December 21, 2025, Mysuru witnessed a significant step forward in educational reform with the launch of the Shikshana Nava Chetana Award. Unveiled by Mysuru MP and scion of the Wadiyar royal family, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, the award aims to celebrate and encourage innovative, low-cost, and context-driven practices at the school level across Mysuru and Kodagu districts.
The launch took place during Shikshana Samvaada, a district-level education dialogue organized by Shikshagraha, a voluntary organization dedicated to improving public education in India. The event brought together educators, school leaders, policymakers, and community stakeholders to discuss and prioritize systemic improvements in education.
The dialogue focused on critical areas such as:
Participants emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to drive sustainable change, moving away from isolated initiatives toward a unified “cradle to career” vision for the region’s children.
In his address, Yaduveer Wadiyar highlighted Mysuru’s rich historical foundation in education and leadership. He stated:
“Mysuru has the foundation, history, and leadership required to build an education ecosystem where every child, regardless of background, can grow, learn, and succeed. We need to move beyond isolated efforts and work together with a shared sense of responsibility.”
Initiated by Shikshagraha, the award recognizes grassroots innovations that are practical, affordable, and tailored to local contexts. As Khushboo Awasthi from Shikshagraha noted:
“The Shikshana Nava Chetana Award is grounded in a simple belief—that educators and schools already carry the wisdom to improve learning when they are trusted, recognised, and supported.”
Submissions for the award are open for one month, inviting schools and educators to showcase their unique solutions. The initiative promises ongoing opportunities for sharing best practices through exhibitions, dialogues, and appreciation ceremonies.
In a time when education systems face challenges like resource constraints and uneven access, initiatives like this empower frontline educators—the true agents of change. By spotlighting school-level innovations, the Shikshana Nava Chetana Award fosters a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration, setting a model for other districts.
The event concluded on an optimistic note, with stakeholders committing to long-term, collective action for transformative education in Mysuru and Kodagu.
This launch marks a promising “nava chetana” (new consciousness) in regional education—one rooted in trust, innovation, and shared responsibility. Here’s to more such inspiring steps toward equitable learning for every child!
