Based on internal records and research, Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) today announced three course streams offered at the institute, that have gained immense popularity with Indian students, especially among women. These streams are…
- Business
- Masters in International Business (MIB), awarded by Grenoble Graduate School of Business (France)
- Masters in Business Administration (MBA), awarded by Bangor University (UK)
- Engineering
- Masters of Science Project Management, awarded by Northumbria University (UK)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechanical Engineering, awarded by Northumbria University (UK)
- Health & Life Sciences
- Masters of Science Health Sciences (Management), awarded by Northumbria University (UK)
In particular, the two engineering programmes have seen a significant increase, of more than 3 times, in student numbers from India from 2015 to 2016. The MIB and MBA courses have proved to be popular too, with student numbers from India almost doubling from 2015 to 2016.
Aditi, a 1st year female student from India studying Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechanical Engineering shared, “Mechanical Engineering has always appealed to me. I love studying how things are made and how they work. MDIS’ Mechanical Engineering course offered me such an opportunity. Engineering can improve our lives and further our knowledge of the world; that is why I want to study to be an engineer.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr R Theyvendran, MDIS Secretary-General said, “MDIS believes in extending educational opportunities and providing an inclusive education for all. Our present student population from India stands at around 500 and growing. It’s heartening to note that in 2015 and 2016, 40 percent of our Indian students were women; which has gone up to 45 percent in 2017 to date.”
Close to 60 percent of MDIS’ students are international students, who have come from over 82 countries, including India.
MDIS also recognises women who show great promise, nurturing their potential for the future. Merit scholarships are awarded to deserving international students to pursue their education. Recently, MDIS presented three young women from India scholarships worth S$4,000 each to pursue their Masters in Business and Finance.
“At MDIS, we believe that it is no longer enough for female students to just have access to quality education and resources. They too need to develop skills required by industries for the future. India has the world’s largest young population and an ambition to become a global economic superpower; the same requires building and enhancing the skills of its people. MDIS provides a transformative transnational education for both women and men, thereby nurturing future-ready graduates,” adds Dr Theyvendran.
MDIS also provides holistic education that nurtures a woman’s professional and personal growth. They benefit from a rich and fulfilling academic life. Experience workshops are held to help them build and enhance critical and soft skills. The Career Assistance Unit at MDIS also helps train and equip them with necessary knowledge and skills to increase their chances of securing jobs, by creating links and channels to assist with their job search.
