As Bengaluru gears up to welcome the New Year, here’s a quick guide on what’s open and closed on December 31:

What’s Open:

  • Restaurants, Bars, and Clubs: Most establishments will be open and host special events, parties, and dinners.
  • Shopping Malls and Markets: Expect extended hours due to New Year sales and celebrations.
  • Public Transportation: Buses, metro services, and taxis/ride-hailing services (like Ola and Uber) will operate, though some services may have altered timings.
  • Hotels and Resorts: Many hotels will remain open, especially those offering New Year’s Eve packages.
  • ATM Services: With minimal bank branches operating, ATMs will be open 24/7 for transactions.

What’s Closed:

  • Government Offices and Banks: Most government offices and banks will be closed, with some private banks possibly having reduced hours.
  • Educational Institutions: Schools, colleges, and universities will generally be closed.
  • Post Offices: Post offices are usually closed on public holidays, and December 31 is no exception.
  • Traffic Restrictions: Areas like MG Road, Brigade Road, Koramangala, Church Street, and Indiranagar will have traffic restrictions to manage large crowds.

The Bengaluru Police have implemented several measures to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain law and order. Flyovers will be closed, and heightened vigilance will be maintained to prevent untoward incidents.
