Justice Anand Byrareddy was hearing a petition filed by Dr B R Ambedkar Engineering College and other private colleges challenging the DTE order denying admission to the students.
The petitioners contended that neither the institutions nor the students were at fault and blamed the State government and Karnataka Education Authority for delaying the admission process.
Directive to Govt
The High Court has directed the government to fill the vacant posts in the Karnataka State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and various district consumer forums by April 21.
A division bench of Chief Justice D H Waghela and Justice B V Nagarathna passed the directions on a PIL filed by N P Amrutesh seeking directions to the government to fill the vacant posts in district consumer redressal forums as some of them had been for three years.
The counsel for government submitted that they have completed the interview process.
‘No Code Violation’
The High Court has allowed the Hanumagiri Seva Trust of Sree Panchamukhi Maha Ganapathi Temple in Hosakere Halli in city to distribute prasadam saying it does not violate the model code of conduct.
Justice S Abdul Nazeer passed the directions on a petition filed by the Trust secretary challenging the Nodal Officer’s notice on April 1 stating that they can’t distribute prasadam to the public on Rama Navami due to the model code of conduct being in force.
Sasikala, Ilavarasi Summoned
Special Court Judge John Michael Cunha, who is hearing the disproportionate assets case involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, on Saturday directed V K Sasikala and J Ilavarasi to appear before the court on Monday without fail along with V N Sudhakaran.
Judge Cunha had on Thursday directed Jayalalithaa and the three others to appear before the court on Saturday. But the police said they cannot arrange security for Jayalalithaa in one day. The counsel for Sasikala and Ilavarasi submitted Saturday that both were unable to come to court as they are diabetic.
Judge Cunha said nearly 40 per cent of people in the country are diabetic and such acts can’t be accepted.
