Only 41% of Students in Karnataka Have APAAR IDs

Bengaluru, Karnataka – According to recent data from the school education department, only 41% of students in Karnataka have received their APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) IDs. The initiative, part of the “One Nation, One Student ID” program, aims to streamline academic and administrative processes by providing a unique, lifelong identifier for students.

Despite the potential benefits, the rollout has faced several challenges. Logistical issues, such as organizing parental consent meetings and technical difficulties in linking Aadhaar with the Student Achievement Tracking System (SATS), have slowed progress. In Bengaluru, only 30% of students have their APAAR IDs generated, significantly below the state average.

Districts like Dakshina Kannada and Chamarajanagar have shown better progress, with over 68% of student data generated. However, other districts, including Bengaluru Urban North and Uttara Kannada, lag behind.

The state government is intensifying outreach efforts to expedite the process, conducting special campaigns and meetings to inform parents about the benefits of the APAAR ID. Despite these efforts, skepticism remains among parents regarding the initiative’s implementation and privacy concerns.

The Karnataka government continues to work towards ensuring all students benefit from the streamlined educational framework provided by the APAAR IDs.
