Robotics will be part of curriculum in Bangalore schools

Schools in Bangalore will now include Robotics education in their curriculum. A Japanese company, in collaboration with a Bangalore firm, is bringing robotic education to government schools in the city, a daily has reported.

Two government schools at Veerabhadranagar and Hosakerehalli in South Bangalore already made their students interact with Japanese citizens in this regard.

The project is spearheaded by Japanese company LS Creative Learnings Pvt Ltd. The education project STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education was launched by LS Creative Learnings Pvt Ltd in collaboration with Dr Tairo Nomura of Saitama University, Tokyo.

LSC signed a MoU with the Department of State Educational Research and Training (DSERT) for the pilot project. On completion of the project, DSERT will evaluate students’ performance to recommend its introduction to other government schools.

According to Sridhar Rao, Shruth and Smith Foundation, a voluntary organization, which facilitated the introduction of robotic education to government schools, robotics education will provide an ideal platform to hone skills like critical thinking, problem solving, decision making and ability to work in teams which cannot be developed in ideal classroom environment. He also said that including robotics in the curriculum of government schools will make their students at par with students in private schools.

David Prakash, director and CEO of LSC Learnings, said robotics education will provide practical application of concepts that will make education for interactive and learning fun.

Private  schools who have already implemented the project include Bishop Cotton Boys School, St John’s High School, Indus International School and Baldwin’s School.
