UK-based Staffordshire University invites applications for its BSc (Hons)Psychology programme
USPs of the course: Accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and taught at Staffordshire University’s Department of Psychology within the School of Life Sciences and Education, the BSc (Hons) Psychology programme enables learners to develop expertise in the area of scientific study of people, their behavioral patterns and helps one to deeply understand the inner workings of the human mind. On successful completion of the programme (with a minimum of a 2:2 degree), students can claim Graduate Basis for Chartership, which allows them to apply for postgraduate training (which is the next step towards becoming a professional psychologist).
This programme instils learners with a combination of analytic and personal skills which will enable them to analyze problems, purpose build human relationships and design investigations.It aims to demonstrate the usefulness and application of psychological concepts and ideas in the real world to students. Therefore, students get to study a range of modules designed to make them think about the different aspects of Psychology, how they work together and the essential role of Psychology in understanding contemporary life.
The course is based in the University’s Science Centre, which is a purpose-built facility equipped with cutting-edge resources and amenities. These amenities include the Psychology Human Sciences Suite, whichcontains state-of-the-art physiological equipment including EEG, galvanic skin response, hormone assessment and pain stimulation. The Centre also housesCognitive Laboratories and Observation Suites equipped with eye-tracking and specialist software, video and audio recording facilities.
The programme core modules includeFoundations in Psychology, Introduction to Research Methods in Psychology, Understanding the Social World, Cognitive and Biological Determinants of Behaviour, Typical and Atypical Development and Contemporary Issues in Psychology among others. In the second year, there is one module wherein students can choose a subject based on their interest from several topics including Psychology of Crime, Childhood: Contexts and Volunteering. Students also undertake four modules from a list of options, including Advanced Research Methods, Health Psychology, Families in Context, Children and Pictures, Neuropsychological Disorders, Behavioural Medicine and Psychological Interventions, in the final year.To ensure extensive learning, a variety of measures are used including lectures, guest speakers visits and master classes, tutorials, workshops, seminars and virtual learning environment enhanced with online resources such as electronic journals, databases and e-books from University’s well-equipped library.
Course Duration: 3 Years (Full-time)
Career Prospects for Course Graduates: An undergraduate degree does not entitle you to practice as a Psychologist. However, Graduates of this programme can continue to pursue careers as professional psychologists in areas such as Health Psychology, Counselling, Educational Psychology and Forensic Psychology, as they can apply for postgraduate training in professional psychology, including clinical, educational, forensic, sport and exercise, occupational, health, and counselling.
They can also opt for careers in teaching, welfare, health, education, caring and guidance professions.
Eligibility Criteria: Candidates should have attained a minimum of 75% overall score in Class 12. Applicants with other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.English language requirements include an overall IELTS score of 6.0.
Commencing From: September 2017
Course Fee: £10,900 per year
Scholarships: New Merit Scholarship of £1,000 is available to Indian students enrolling for the first time in September 2017 and also, New Undergraduate Progression Scholarships of up to £2,000 will be awarded on an annual basis dependent on performance across the full academic year.
