UK-based University of Dundee invites applications for its four year full time BSc (Hons) Computing Science programme

Learn a creative approach to solving real problems using computer programs

Have you ever wondered how so many songs can fit on your iPod or how millions of computers work together to form the internet without anyone in charge? The answer to all these questions can be found through doing a degree in Computing Science. It is to be noted that Computing Science is not programming. It is about solving problems with computer programs.

Scotland’s prestigious University of Dundee is inviting applications for September 2019 intake of its four year full time BSc (Hons) Computing Science programme. This programme will imbibe the students with the knowledge of the theoretical, scientific and mathematical components of computing.

Students pursuing this programme will get the opportunity to study at Scotland’s Number 2 ranked University for Computer Science and Information Systems, as per the Guardian University Guide 2019. The University’s Discipline of Computing also houses cutting edge equipment such as Microsoft Hololens devices, HTC VIve VR headset and others. Furthermore, University of Dundee is ranked among the UK’s top 30 Universities in the Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019 and The Guardian University Guide 2019. The University has been given a Gold award – the highest possible rating – in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

University of Dundee’s BSc (Hons) Computing Science programme is designed for people who enjoy the challenge of understanding the technical background of algorithm and software analysis and want to use these skills to solve real-life problems. Students will also focus on the theory that underpins all of this, including mathematics and theories of computation.

During this programme, students will be taught by specialists in computer science, computing, mathematics and philosophy. Dundee was the first university to host a Yahoo! Hack Day and challenges computer programmers to come up with fresh and creative ideas in collaboration with local software agencies. The University also leads the development of SpaceWire, the onboard data-handling network that is widely used by the world’s space agencies and students can become involved with this during an optional work placement or their final year project.

Guest lectures and research seminars, involving key industry partners like NCR and Yahoo, are arranged for the students. There is also an opportunity to get involved in world-leading research: one 2009 student presented his Honours project at a leading international computer vision conference and had his work featured in New Scientist Magazine.

The University provides high levels of industry exposure to its students, enabling them to gain strong skill set highly sought after by employers. Students gain work placement experience in the summer vacation for degree credit between Level 3 and Level 4, giving them ‘real world’ work experience and valuable insight into working in the computing industry. The companies that have offered work placement opportunities to the students include Microsoft, NHS, Avian, Yahoo!, NCR and Cohort Studios.

Eligibility Criteria: Indian Students must have overall 60% in the CBSE, ISC or leading state board XII Standard exams. Applicants should also have an overall IELTS score of 6 with a minimum of 5.5 in listening, reading and speaking as well as 6 in writing.

Course Fee: £20,950 per year of study

Application Deadline: The application deadline is 30th June but clearing places may be available in July and August.
