University of Leeds Opens Applications for MSc in Sustainable Agriculture & Food Production for Indian Students

The newly launched program is cutting-edge and designed to equip future leaders with the skills to drive sustainability in global food systems.

March 21, 2025: The University of Leeds is now accepting applications from Indian students for its newly launched MSc in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Production. This innovative program equips students with the expertise to tackle pressing global challenges in food security and sustainable farming. With a strong focus on environmental sustainability, cutting-edge research, and industry collaboration, it offers a valuable opportunity for those looking to make a real-world impact in the agricultural sector.

The growing significance of sustainable agriculture and food production is fuelled by three key challenges: an expanding global population, increasing environmental pressures, and a changing climate. The MSc Sustainable Agriculture and Food Production program at the University of Leeds is a multidisciplinary course that leverages the institute’s strong foundation in sustainable agricultural research. It also draws upon the extensive expertise available across the university and beyond, including the Global Food and Environment Institute. With an interdisciplinary and research-led approach, the program equips students with a comprehensive understanding of the critical issues shaping both agriculture and food production.

A distinctive feature of the program is its access to the University of Leeds’ state-of-the-art Research Farm, spanning over 300 acres. The farm provides students with hands-on experience across a variety of agricultural landscapes, including arable crops, agroforestry plots, and sheep grazing areas. Throughout their studies, students will have opportunities to visit and conduct research on the farm, gaining practical exposure to sustainable farming techniques, livestock management, and environmental monitoring. This direct access to a working farm enhances their learning experience by enabling them to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting and undertake impactful research projects.

While acquiring a thorough understanding of the principles of sustainable agriculture and food production from a variety of angles, students will go on to explore more complex research subjects. They will engage with various agricultural advancements, including crop biotechnology, genome engineering, sustainable livestock production, and environmental monitoring and management. The program prepares graduates for careers in consulting, policy, scientific monitoring, biotechnology, and PhD research. The skills gained will also be highly relevant for roles in sustainability, decarbonisation, climate mitigation, and circular economies.
