University of Lincoln invites applications for the only MA Community Radio programme offered in the UK

University of Lincoln is inviting applications for its MA Community Radio programme which will commence from September, 2016.

USPs of the Course: University of Lincoln offers the only MA Community Radio programme in the UK. Taught atbedu-ma-community-radio the School of English &Journalism, which has recently received a national BJTC award for Innovation in Broadcast Journalism Teaching, the programme provides hands-on experience of producing and presenting as well as an understanding of community radio’s relationship to the wider media industry. University of Lincoln is home to Siren FM, UK’s first Ofcom-licensed, campus-based community radio station. Thus, the course provides students an opportunity to get involved in managing, producing, developing and writing programming concepts for Siren FM, thereby gaining an unparalleled practical experience for a senior role in radio. The MA Community Radio programme is taught by expert academics with bedu-University-of-Lincoln-Campusmore than 25 years of experience in community broadcasting. It provides a range of critical and theoretical approaches to radio broadcasting, including an exploration of its relationship to multi-platform deliveries, history and international uses of the medium. Students have the opportunity of specialising in a technical platform (print or broadcast) and in subject areas like Arts Reporting, Contemporary Issues in Sports Journalism, Ethics in Science and Environmental Journalism as well as International Human Rights Journalism. All students learn online journalism and about the work of correspondents and specialist journalism, with the opportunity to develop their own fields of interest and content themes.

Course Duration: 1 year (Full-time)

Career Prospects for Course Graduates: Course Graduates are critical practitioners who can succeed in a multi-skilled environment – online, broadcast and print – as well as in a number of information, creative and cultural industries such as publishing, arts promotion, press and public relations which are intrinsically connected with the growing radio industry.

Eligibility Criteria: Students are required to have a good Bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade of 60%.Students also need an IELTS score of 7.0 with no less than 6.5 in each element, or equivalent.

Scholarships: Global Postgraduate Scholarship worth £2000 is available for all applicants who meet the entry requirements. International Alumni Scholarship worth £2,000 is also available for all Self-funding international students who have previously studied an undergraduate course at the University and progresses onto a postgraduate course. A student will be eligible only for one of these scholarships.

Commencing From: September 2016

Course Fee: £13,700 per year (after a reduction of £2000 as Global Postgraduate/International Alumni Scholarship)
