VTU 25th Annual Convocation: Celebrating Academic Excellence with Top Medal Winners

Belagavi, July 2, 2025 – The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), one of Karnataka’s premier technical institutions, is gearing up for its 25th Annual Convocation on July 4, 2025, at its Jnana-Sangama campus in Belagavi. This milestone event will honor the academic achievements of 60,052 graduating students, including 262 PhD recipients and 2 integrated dual-degree holders. Among the highlights of the convocation are the outstanding performances of students who have secured top ranks and gold medals, showcasing exceptional academic prowess across various engineering disciplines.

Top Gold Medalists: Shining Stars of VTU

The convocation will see several students being awarded gold medals for their remarkable academic achievements. Leading the pack is Namrata C Prabhu, a civil engineering student from Oxford College of Engineering, Bengaluru, who has secured an unprecedented 13 gold medals, the highest number awarded to any individual at this year’s convocation. Namrata’s stellar performance underscores her dedication and mastery in her field, setting a new benchmark for academic excellence at VTU.

Following closely are Karthik L, a mechanical engineering student from Bangalore Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, and Kavana A, an electrical and electronics engineering student from GSSS Institute of Technology for Women, Mysuru, each securing seven gold medals. Their achievements highlight the diversity of talent across VTU’s affiliated institutions and the strength of its engineering programs.

Additionally, another standout student, whose name was not fully disclosed in available reports, is set to receive 11 gold medals for her exceptional performance in electronics and communication engineering. Reflecting on her success, she credited her early interest in electronic devices, inspired by her father’s background in the same field, as well as the hands-on experience and robust academic support provided by her college’s labs and faculty.

Institutional Excellence: Colleges with Top Ranks

Several VTU-affiliated colleges have also distinguished themselves by securing multiple ranks in the university’s academic standings. Institutions such as Dr. T Thimmaiah Institute of Technology, KGF, Sai Vidya Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, RNS Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur, and JNNCE Shivamogga each clinched seven VTU ranks, reflecting their commitment to fostering academic excellence. Additionally, Sri Venkateshwara College of Engineering (SVCE), Bengaluru, celebrated its students from the Computer Science and Engineering (AI) program, who secured top ranks and gold medals, further highlighting the institution’s focus on cutting-edge fields like artificial intelligence.

Honorary Doctorates and Distinguished Guests

In addition to recognizing student achievements, VTU will confer the prestigious Doctor of Science honorary degree upon three eminent personalities: V Narayanan, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Secretary of the Department of Space; Prashant Prakash, founder of Excel India; and CS Sunder Raju, Chancellor of Atria University, Bengaluru. Their contributions to science, innovation, and education will be celebrated during the convocation, inspiring the next generation of engineers and researchers.

The convocation will be graced by Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, who will deliver the convocation address as the chief guest. The event will be presided over by Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, with Higher Education Minister MC Sudhakar in attendance, adding to the significance of the occasion. VTU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Vidhyashankar, announced the list of rank holders and medalists during a press conference, emphasizing the university’s commitment to nurturing talent and innovation.
