Bangalore University announces steep hike in fees

In not so good news during this ongoing admission season, Bangalore University (BU) has announced a steep hike in fees for undergraduate courses in all its affiliated colleges from the academic year 2015-16.

BU Registrar (Administration) K.K. Seethamma said the hike was an annual one of 10 per cent as permitted by the government.

However, BU Vice-Chancellor B. Thimme Gowda explained that the difference in fee was Rs. 500 as the fee for certain components had been increased. “The government sent a circular last year saying the sports fee had been hiked to Rs. 1,000. But we received it late, which is why we are implementing it this year. But we are increasing it only to Rs. 500 from Rs. 100. There is an overall increase of Rs. 100 in the remaining components (admission and transfer, etc),” Prof. Gowda explained.

Last year

The fee structure for the last academic year was: Rs. 900 (PU Board students), Rs. 2,900 (Indian students) Rs. 6,500 (Indian students from outside India) and Rs. 7,450 (foreign students). For students opting for BCA course, it was Rs. 5,550 (State PU students), Rs. 7,550 (non-PU board students), Rs. 11,150 (Indian students from outside the country) and Rs. 10,150 (foreign students).

BU has also brought out the calendar of events for odd semesters (first, third, fifth, seventh) for the BA, BSc, BCom, BBM, BHA, BVA, BSc (FAD) and BCA courses. Incidentally, though the calendar states that admissions can begin on June 1, many colleges in the city have already completed admissions to many courses. Similarly, many private colleges are collecting fee way over that prescribed by the varsity.

We are increasing sports fee from Rs. 100 to Rs. 500. There is an overall increase of Rs. 100 in the remaining components (admission and transfer)

Classes Commence from June 22

I am an aspiring student from Uganda. Please advise me when I can apply for admission. Is it too late for Bsc Electrical Engineering?

    Thank you
